IMPORTANT READ: SCJA Summer News Letter

Attached is our summer newsletter. A lot of you were concerned that the SCJA was not invited to the July 25th, 2010 meeting in Houston between the other two judges groups and the AKC Judges Department to discuss the annual judges fee. Your Board was of the opinion that little would be gained if the proposed meeting was limited to one subject, i.e. the annual judges fee. The newsletter primarily discusses the SCJA’s alternative course of action - - our proposal to AKC’s Chairman, Board and President. As you read the details of our comments and proposals, bear in mind we are happy to report that AKC Chairman Menaker took positive action after receiving SCJA’s letter discussed in the newsletter and placed the SCJA letter on the agenda for discussion at AKC’s August Board meeting. Rest assured, Chairman Menaker’s positive action concerning our letter clearly indicates he is open for all suggestions that might affect savings in any area where our judges are involved. We will keep our members informed. Once again, a thank you to AKC Chairman Menaker for his timely action.

After reviewing the minutes from the meeting in Houston last month, and talking to some of the individuals involved, the general consensus was that the meeting was not quite as productive as hoped for. We believe the SCJA’s course of action was appropriate and so far effective. We were bombarded with complaints, emails and telephone calls when AKC’s proposal for an annual judges fee first came out. No one was for a fee of any sort. We did not query our membership since we couldn’t imagine any of our members thinking it was a good idea. Recall our very strong mid-May letter opposing the proposed annual judges fee to all judges, Delegates and others within the sport which included our success in not having the judges annual fee implemented back in 2005 when the subject first came up.

Dear Members:

The attached SCJA newsletter is rather lengthy and is being sent to all of you who agreed to receive it via email. It goes without saying that it is a lot more economical; however, since our fiscal year is up and it’s time for annual dues, we have sent an abridged version via regular mail which will contain the dues notice form and self-addressed return envelope. It also has a very important questionnaire (on back of dues notice). It should take you about 2 – 3 minutes to answer the questions. We want to come up with some statistics to report. Your individual responses are, of course, confidential and will only be used to compile total percentages. There is a lot of news about the latest happenings concerning recent policies affecting our judges. The work of your Board and the SCJA will be evident by the details enclosed.

We are going into our 24th year, and our dues have remained the same. Remember, the SCJA has no expense for office space, storage space or utilities (except phone). They are all donated.

We hope we can count on your continued support. Please feel free to add any comments to the questionnaire or at any time via email. If for any reason you do not receive a mailed version within the next 10 days, be sure to let us know.

The News Letter has ALL IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHICH NEEDS TO BE PRINTED OUT WILL BE IN A PDF FILE. You can obtain COMPLETE information in a pdf (portable document format) file. All you need is the Adobe Acrobat reader (which is FREE) to download and print the file. Please be sure you have the LATEST version of the reader or you may get an error.
